Will Florida Repeat?

3/25/07 Sunday morning thoughts
Half the final four is set with Ohio State and UCLA. Paul still maintains his grip on first place and with his winner and runner up still alive , he has a better chance to win the pool than the Celtics do of getting Greg Oden in the draft. There are definitly a bunch of Buckeye rooters who can still catch Paul, but Paul has more options. The scenarios will be put out during the after the final 2 final four participants are chosen.

Those of you who have no teams alive in Sunday's games still have rooting interest. One example is Dottie J. who is having a nice tourney run. She is situated well for 2nd place if UCLA can win the title, and if North Carolina is eliminated before the final four. So we suggest that Dottie wear her gray and deep blue and find out what a HOYA is and root for Georgetown to stomp the Tarheels. Go Dottie! We at Patspicks will also be rooting hard for the Hoyas.

3/22/07:How many more lives do Buckeyes have?
For the second straight game the Ohio State Buckeyes dogged certain death and continue their march towards Atlanta. Tennessee was all over OSU early leading by as many as 20 points. OSU fought back and took their 1st lead half way thru the 2nd half and survived a last shot to win by 1 and advance. Leaderboard still crowed; Paul M. maintains his lead with 84 points, Terry Landers is breathing down his neck with 81 points, 13 others are within 25 points and still have realistic dreams of winning it all.

Patspicks Stands corrected!
As a service to a long time friend of the Pool, Mark, we decided to run a quick scenario to see if he had any chance of winning this year. Much to our surprise, even though he sits in last place with 38 points, if Florida beats Ohio State in the Final and IF AND ONLY IF North Carolina makes the Final Four - Mark would go from worst to first and take home the cash! The official scenarios will be released AFTER the Final Four is determined. Please do not call for a personalized scenario for your position, even if you are related to me or my wife.

Recap after Sunday 3/18

After Friday's round

As the first round came to a close late Friday night Craig R. stood atop the standings with 45 points.
However 13 entries are within 15 points of the leader, more than 50% of the entire field of competitors.

"Where have you gone George Mason"

As the field whittled down to 32, the number of Cinderella candidates basically sits at 2 with 11 seeds VCU and Winthrop still alive. VCU is the sentimental pick of "Patspicks", because they slayed the evil empire, and their rat-face coach in the first round.

"White Jerseys dominate"

27 out of 32 game winners in the first round were the higher seed, and 3 of the lower seeds came in the 8-9 game. This created havoc with the much talked about "upset special" feature of the pool. Longtime veterans Greg SA, Greg L., and Peter B. were unable to get off to their customary quick starts without nailing the upset special.

"Winning isn't everything"

Greg L. is this years winner of the prestigious "Matt Spencer Huh Award", by having one of his Final 4 picks eliminated in the first round. Greg L. could still cash some money by the end of the pool, but at least he picked up some early hardware.
